The Original 13
The Original 13 is an in-depth documentary history of religion in America’s original thirteen states.
Joseph Story was the founder of Harvard Law School and appointed to the Supreme Court by President James Madison—the same James Madison who introduced the First Amendment in the first session of Congress. He once stated that “The whole power over the subject of religion is left exclusively to the State governments, to be acted upon according to their own sense of justice and the State Constitutions.” Joseph Story is just one of hundreds of people intricately involved in the birth of religious freedom in America.
To understand this progression, it is important to review the constitutions of the original thirteen States, together with the Colonial Charters that preceded them, including such important papers as the Virginia Charter, the Delaware Charter, the Massachusetts Constitution, and the other ten documents that changed the course of our history. Knowing the original intent of the Founding Fathers can help change the course of our country’s future.
