Hope is probably one of the most comforting words known to man. Hope is what allows us to look forward to what the future holds. It carries with it the idea that life can be different or better than it is right now. However, as favorable as the word hope is to our ears, we are often disappointed because we have an incomplete view of hope. Generally speaking, many define hope as “wishful thinking” and “a desire for something better.” However, such hope is always coupled with uncertainty about whether what we hope for will come to pass. This view of hope is light years away from hope as defined in the Bible. A specific Greek word in the New Testament describes hope as, not mere wishful thinking, but rather a desirous expectation—it is an anticipation of something we are certain will happen. As Christians, what is the hope that we have for now and in the future?
