The persuasive essay model from the Structure and Style syllabus is reviewed and expanded in this lecture to explain specific details of how to plan and construct a persuasive paper. The “strategic” model shows how to select topics and plan a presentation that will catch the reader’s attention and keep him reading, gradually swaying his opinion in the desired direction. The second half of this lesson gives insightful tips on powerful public-speaking techniques, illustrating exactly how to deliver a message to an audience in a dynamic and engaging way. Although primarily designed for teachers and college-level students, the concepts presented are also applicable for professionals who wish to hone their communication and information-processing skills. Familiarity with the Unit VIII model in Teaching Writing: Structure and Style is recommended, but not required, for those viewing this tape. By Andrew Pudewa | |
