In 1851 Olive Oatman and her sister are traveling west in a wagon train. Along the way their family is massacred and they are captured by renegade Yavapais. A year later they are rescued by the Mohave and tattooed with the mark of ransom. The horrific cruelty of captivity and the death of her sister due to starvation almost brings Olive to the point of despair. Just when she thinks all is lost, she learns the true meaning of ransom.
