We tend to be enamored with the big and powerful and often overlook things that are weak and lowly. Some have even believed the myth that a person is “better off dead than disabled.” However, God wants us to see the incredible value He places on each person He has created and to reach out to the physically disabled by including them in our fellowship. Dealing with common misconceptions regarding those with disabilities, Joni Eareckson Tada shares not only how the disabled bless the Body of Christ but also how the Body is incomplete without them. A quadriplegic herself for more than 30 years, she explains how we need to recognize that those with special needs are walking “audio-visual aids” demonstrating God’s grace in action. Joni challenges each of us to look for the lame, maimed, and blind to whom we can minister and to reach out to them as Jesus commanded in Luke 14:12–14. This message was given at the 2003 ATI Training Conference. By Joni Eareckson Tada
